Long Night

18” x 24” Oil on Wood Panel

A reimagining of a previous work of mine. From the original description: “The world looks different from the eyes of a toddler, but from the outside looking in, the life of a toddler isn’t always very different from that of an adult. After a very long day, clothes falling off and cheeks rosy, this youngster had to stop for a break as he made the tiresome climb upstairs to bed.”

Although I had already depicted this image once before in watercolor, I got the sense that something was missing each time I looked at it. I craved more detail, and more to the story. After some time, I decided to reapproach the piece with a new medium and at a much larger scale, allowing me to capture more details and more effectively portray the expression on the subject’s face.
